Commercial Upholstery: Egg Chairs for Bruntwood

From the workshop this week, four Arne Jacobsen Egg Chairs, have been given a new lease of life. They are sitting pride of place, with an M3 coffee table, in the window of Oxford Place at 61 Oxford Street, in Manchester’s city centre.

We seem to be quite popular with businesses on Manchester’s Oxford Road at the moment. With a commercial commission for new restaurant The Refuge last month, and the latest job for retail and office space provider, Bruntwood.

The chairs have been in Bruntwood’s possession for some time. However, these once bright red beauties, sun damaged and looking rather sad had been retired to the basement.

Upon arrival in our workshop, we stripped back the chairs to reveal their fibreglass shell.  We replaced with new foam, before covering with the chosen fabrics.  The client chose Harris Tweed upholstery fabric in a vibrant yellow and sumptuous turquoise herringbone. An excellent choice, even if we do say so ourselves.  In fact, we think this is the first time an Egg Chair has been upholstered in Harris Tweed!
