Edwardian Home Renovation
As lovers of all things vintage we have to share the hidden gems revealed in this 1911 Edwardian semi-detached property restoration. From traditional parquet wood flooring ranges, to 50s kitchen larders and gorgeous mid-century furnishings; the owners have captured the era in style.
Whilst modern enhancements have elevated the home, they have stuck their historic roots. We were amazed to see the transformation their property has undergone, with both internal and external renovation work and a whole host of hands-on DIY.
Self-installations, re-upholstering and decorating is just the start. We know a thing or two when it comes to renovation work so can appreciate the time, effort and sheer dedication that has gone into this project. Here is some amazing before and after pictures to take a look at!
Amazed, right?
We love the use of unfinished parquet oak solid wood flooring to add character, charm and authenticity to the ground floor. The heritage dates back to 16th century France but the flooring became particularly popular during the Edwardian era. Unfinished parquet provides the ideal blank canvas to express your sense of style. The oil tints allow you to get creative with colourings and textures, to personalise your design whilst the instant association with luxury traditional styling sets the ambiance of the room.
Supplier: The flooring has been supplied by Direct Wood Flooring. They are passionate about the look of authenticity, richness and understated luxury a wood floor brings to the home. Their huge range of engineered & solid wood flooring is designed, manufactured & finished to the highest standard at affordable prices.
As upholstery specialists, we are in awe of the DIY restoration work which has gone into this project – from the 50s kitchen larder to the remploy draws and teak dresser. The attention to detail in the ebonising, varnishing and finishing has surpassed all expectation. The furniture is even more appealing than their original styles, with modern tooling used to enhance the furniture’s features.
We were delighted to be asked to transform the beautiful mid-century sofa bed to breathe life back into the design. Sanding away the wear layers from the frame, restoring the timber and removing the tired old cushion covers before reupholstering with the stunning teal wool fabric by Kirkby Design. We also loved restoring the retro G Plan 6250. The colours in the geometric fabric contrast perfectly against the black leather to create a unique, timeless, statement piece – guaranteed to impress in any room setting.
We couldn’t write about this home without commenting on the gorgeous kitchen and bi-folding door layout by Panoramic Doors. What a brilliant way to really make use of the open space. The design elevates the house to the next level, stamping a modern twist on the Edwardian style.
Supplier: Panoramic Doors are the only folding door system on the market that has panels that move independently of each other, giving the user full control over the opening, and the ability to configure the doors in many different ways, to suit their needs. They also have the highest security rating and energy efficiency rating for a door of this type. Check out their handy demonstration video for more information.
So why have we shared this gorgeous home with you?
The property has been completely transformed to an impeccable standard. Each room is inspiring and really captures the era with style and finesse. Of course it has taken time to get to this stage but the results speak for themselves. We’re not saying race off to Right Move to buy a renovation project but what we are saying is creating your dream home is possible with a little time and patience.
