The Swan chair by Arne Jacobsen

Simion's most recent restoration is a stunning vintage Swan chair. As it's such an iconic chair, we thought it was only right to tell you a bit more about it.

In 1960 the Royal Hotel Copenhagen opened its doors. It was the first skyscraper in the Danish capital, and was designed by Arne Jacobsen.

Architect, nature lover and forward thinking designer, Jacobsen styled everything from the cutlery, to our favourite part of course - the Drop, Egg and Swan chairs.

The sixth floor of the Royal Hotel today is home to room 606 - the Arne Jacobsen Suite. This room features the original decor by Jacobsen from the 1960s, and the blue-green colour palette is inspired by the colours of the roofs of the city as seen from the window.

Simion always feels incredibly lucky to be able to work on one of these iconic chairs. This particular example even more so as it dates between 1958 and 1963.

This restoration has been a labour of love, as once stripped back to the original shell it became clear that the chair was in need of a little tlc, no wonder given its age.

After a bit of TLC, Swan chair shell is all ready for fabric

Our client chose a great fabric from Bute which we think looks just right for this style of chair. Getting the fabric to sit perfectly around the Swan chairs beautiful curves is a tricky job, but absolutely worth it for the final result.

What do you think?
